THE ELMTON AND CRESWELL VILLAGE COMPANY
The Elmton and Creswell Village Company is a vehicle for community regeneration of the villages. It was set up in 2001 at the request of the Village Forum, which represented some 60 different organisations working in the villages.
Structure
The company is Limited by Guarantee with nearly 200 members, each of whom has paid £1 as part of the Guarantee mechanism. ECVC is also a registered charity, since early 2009.
The company is governed by a board consisting of:
· Local community directors – all volunteers with a range of skills and expertise
· Institutional directors, able to provide additional experience
Specialist are called upon for advice in specific projects..
Premises
In 2001, the Village Company bought the vacated National Westminster Bank building in Creswell and renovated this to provide a Resource Point to meet some of the essential community needs. This became highly active and more space was needed. In 2004, three burned-out buildings in the centre of Creswell were purchased and rebuilt to allow more to be done. The new building, named Limestone House, was opened on July 24th 2004 as an Education and Heritage Centre and focal point of the company's work. The Resource Point has been altered internally to allow it to be used as a Multimedia Studio - Limestone Studio - with state of the art facilities for audio, video, photographic and filming work, as well as for training in multimedia skills.
The activities of ECVC at Limestone House and the Resource Point are described under items on the side menu.
