Success Stories

DAVID SMITH:-

In relation to the achievements of Elmton & Creswell Village Company with regard to training the unemployed:-

David Smith of Shirebrook started work on  12th July 2010 as an Apprentice in Office

Administration for 18 months with the Elmton & Creswell Village Company.  David was seconded to the Village Company for training from the Bolsover District Council Apprenticeship Team.

David completed his NVQ2 in Business Administration within 6 months of starting his Apprenticeship at Limestone House and he has now gained employment in Office Administration with Sports Direct, Shirebrook and started work there on 27th July 2011.

In a recent letter to the Village Company David said  that due to the opportunity of the Apprenticeship and the Training  provided  by the Village Company he has been able to turn his life around.  David told of being unemployed  for 4 years since leaving school before he was selected at interview  for the Apprenticeship with the Village Company and  before that  he had believed that  he would never be able to find a job. The turning point in his life came when he was chosen at interview to become an Apprentice with the Elmton & Creswell Village Company.

On 21st July  Margaret Warren, of the National Apprenticeship Team, interviewed David

and Julie Holling about his work and achievements during the 12 months he was an Apprentice with the Village Company.   David has given his permission for The National Apprenticeship Team to publish his story as a Case Study throughout the East Midlands to inspire other young people to join the Apprenticeship Scheme.

Kerry Wilson of Creswell is a prime example of the help that Limestone House offers the community. In August 2010, she had no qualifications; however she decided to take up the training offered by Limestone House and funded by Coalfields Regeneration Trust. Every Wednesday morning from 10am to 1pm, she attended ICT training sessions, helped by her tutors Donna Vodden and John Freeman. Once she had gained the Level 1 qualifications, she decided to continue on. She has passed two of these and is waiting for her results on the third. Thanks her own hard work and determination, she now has five Open College Network qualifications which will hopefully help her to gain employment.
