Family Fun sessions

The ECVC Volunteers proposed that during the school summer holidays  there should be Family Fun sessions in Limestone House. Extra Volunteers gave their time to come in to help with the activities during the afternoon of  17/8/11 and 24/8/11 and parents and children visited Limestone House for Fun activities. They enjoyed the Table Top Games and  many children had their face painted and, to the delight of all, one mum also had her face painted too.  Thank you to the Vicar of Creswell, Revd. Amanda S G  Pike,  who spent the afternoon doing the face painting. Other fun activities included Drawing, Colouring, Word search, Crossword puzzles, Computer activities, Dolly and Teddy dressing, Tombola and Table Tennis  also Scootering in the patio area

Look out for the date in Limestone House of the next Family Fun session during the October Half Term Holiday

"Past and Present" Project

from 12/1/11 to 16/3/11

Local schoolchildren from around the area have been taking part in a "Past and Present" project to help them understand their local history. 60 children from Whitwell School and Whaley Thorns schools were given a topic associated with the local area and researched it using the Internet, then created a podcast about it.

Topics ranged from natural history such as Creswell Crags and Sherwood Forest to manmade creations like Bolsover Castle and Hardwick Hall. It gave the children a sense of what a historicl area they lived in.

The project also helped them to get to grips with modern technology. After researching their topic, they used the recording equipment at Limestone Studio to create a podcast, which is similar to a radio show and can be put on MP3 players. All the transport for this project was free thanks to a grant from the Access Alliance Programme, which has allowed Elmton & Creswell Village Company to purchase a minibus.
